I had suffered from anorexia for one of those decades before entering recovery. This crippling disorder has been named and shamed. Binge eating disorder (BED) is a relatively recently recognized eating disorder, only added to the DSM-IV in 1994. However, despite increased recognition, BED often faces similar, if not more, stigma and shame compared to anorexia. Those with BED regularly engage in episodes of binge eating, during which they consume large amounts of food in a relatively short period while feeling a lack of control over their eating. Ozempic and other drugs like it are simply a bandaid on a gushing wound. While medications may have a role in some instances, they should not be viewed as a standalone solution. Depression and other psychiatric illnesses can be treated and effectively managed, but it does take time, and it does take work. OCD is a mental health condition characterized by the presence of obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are intrusive, distressing, and persistent thoughts, images, or urges, while compulsions are repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed in response to the obsessions to reduce distress or prevent a feared event. In children, OCD may manifest differently than in adults, and it can sometimes be challenging to recognize because children may not always be able to articulate their experiences. Medication can be a valuable part of treatment, especially when the symptoms are severe, significantly impair the child's functioning, or do not respond adequately to therapy alone.
